kitoba subcounty

Areas of Operation

Giving Hope Foundation chose Kitoba sub-county as our focus area of operation, which will be reviewed in 2023. Kitoba is a small subcounty, located to the north of Hoima City, and is one of the four (4) sub-counties that make up Bugahya County, in Hoima District.

The area is prone to Environmental degradation including wetland reclamation, massive deforestation for agriculture, and, cutting down trees for timber, fire wood and charcoal burning. Furthermore, it is also prone to bush fires that most set off my individuals, mainly with intentions of burning old grass to allow regeneration of fresh pastures for their animals. Most of these fires are not controlled and end up destroying crops, wood lots and sometimes property. Crop pets and diseases are also common in the area, and these include banana bacterial wilt, cassava mosaic, cassava brown streak disease, coffee Twig Borer, and coffee wilt disease. Common pets include caterpillars, aphids and fruit flies.
According to the National Population and Housing Census (2014), Kitoba Sub-county has 7,476 households with an average of 4.7 people in each household. Therefore, we selected Kitoba as our area of focus because we know the community, there is actual need and there we could realistically create reasonable impact with our limited resources.
