Our Story

Inspired to change Lives of vulnerable young boys

How we Started

This is our story

Our story started on one cold night in 2009. Giving Hope Foundation (GHF) started as Community Restoration Project in Makerere West (Kikoni area) in 2009 after three boys (about 14 years) were tempted to break into the house of our Founder at 3 am. The thought of 14-year-old children moving in the wee hours of the night to try and find something to steal drove him to start a program that would find these three boys (plus other possible children) in Makerere Kikoni and prevent them from taking a wrong path in their lives. Through a community football program, the three boys were found and invited to attend the football training, socialize and also receive free counselling – this was the start of the community restoration journey.

Unfortunately, one of the boys dropped out of the program shortly after. News reached us later on that he became a serial thief, he was arrested and beaten to death. The other two went on to forge successful and productive lives.  The need to see a difference in the community in terms of maintaining cleaner healthy environment, safe water, an end to child labor, and violence against women led to the creating of the organization.

Our Logo

butterfly Giving Hope Foundation logo

Our logo – a Butterfly is an expression of who we are, what we do and what inspires us. A butterfly undergoes different stages of transformation until it becomes an “adult” and ready to fly.
The four colors in the wings perfectly symbolizes how we work with  unprivileged communities in order to achieve sustainable development. They represent our commitment to working closely with rural populations, to help them improve their own lives through their daily productive activities and actions.
Each of the five colors in our logo represents a specific category of people-program, all aimed at community sustainability. A butterfly represents simplicity! The wings are intersected, as a representation that great things can happen if people from different backgrounds unite  and work together on common cause.

The Colors

Orange: represents Clean Energy. This is our commitment to help unprivileged  communities access innovative, affordable and durable energy solutions that not only reduce exposure to greenhouse gas emissions in their households, but also save time, and money, and therefore create a positive impact on our environment.

Green: represents Agriculture which employs more than 98% of the people in the communities where we operate. This is our commitment to work with rural farmers by changing their mindsets, and improving their operations from subsistence to agribusiness/ value addition-based farming. It is also a reminder of our responsibility to appreciate, respect and care for our natural environment.

Pink: represents Health and Well-being as a symbol of empowerment, self-esteem and thriving. A butterfly has a short life – this teaches us to live with love and enjoy every moment and to live without regrets. This is also our commitment to helping people living in unprivileged  communities to improve their everyday health, emotional and mental well-being.

Blue: represents Sustainable Communities – also a reminder of our vision. We are absolutely committed to playing our role as a catalysts for change, aiming to enhance the livelihoods of unprivileged people in order to achieve sustained social-economic community development.

Black: represents people; people are the center of our programs and services.  A butterfly also has the tentacles which is a symbol of our values including communication, openness and transparency.

Where we are

Since we transitioned to working with smallholder farmers in Hoima, we setup an office in Kitoba sub county, Hoima district. In a rural setting so as to be closer to our members. We have since signed over 500 smallholder farmers, who are organized in small groups.
We are continuously training the farmers in improved farming practices. These are causing positive changes improvements in their lives.
